Instead of trimming its workforce to cut costs amid the economic downturn, Gokongwei-led budget carrier Cebu Pacific announced Tuesday that it is planning to hire some 250 female flight attendants this year.
"Our continued domestic and international expansion and rapidly growing passenger base require us to hire and train more cabin attendants. They have to exemplify Cebu Pacific’s fun, reliable, and high-quality service," Candice Iyog, Cebu Pacific vice president for marketing and distribution, said in a statement.
Interested female applicants aged between 18 and 25 may submit their resume with a 2x2 ID photo and credentials at the Cebu Pacific Training and Development Center in Pasay City.
Cebu Pacific said applicants must have good eyesight, a pleasing personality, a minimum height of 5'3, and weight proportional to their height. They should also be fluent in English and Filipino, and should have at least finished their second year in college.
On top of these, applicants should be willing to be based in Manila, Clark (Pampanga), Cebu, and Davao.
The screening of applicants is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Manila on May 20 and 27, and on June 3, 10, 17, and 24. In Baguio City, the screening is scheduled on May 21 in the Tuscany Room of Hotel Veniz.
"We encourage young graduates to apply in CEB. We are a young, fun, and service-oriented firm committed to providing high-quality service Filipino travelers across Asia and the Philippines," Iyog said.
Cebu Pacific has a fleet of 10 A319 and 11 A320 Airbus aircraft and eight turbo-prop ATR 72 aircraft. The budget carrier said it is expecting to take delivery of two more ATR aircraft this year to open more inter-island routes.
Last week, Airline Business Magazine has cited Cebu Pacific as the third largest budget airline in Asia and 22nd worldwide. It was also cited as the fastest growing carrier in Asia for posting a 23-percent increase in its total passengers at 6.7 million.
Cebu Pacific had 1.97 million passengers from January to March, higher than 1.54 million in the same period in 2008. For the full-year, Cebu Pacific aims to expand its customer base to 9 million passengers.
