Bees attack runners, 30 hospitalized

TOKYO - A swarm of bees attacked half-marathon runners in southwestern Japan on Sunday, forcing 30 people to be rushed to hospital, rescuers said. During the race in Saga city, athletes were set upon by the bees as they ran near a river bank, according to one of the local fire departments which dispatched five ambulances because of the incident.

Husband faces $1M suit for wife's lost virginity

KUALA LUMPUR - A Malaysian woman is suing her husband for nearly a million dollars over the loss of her virginity, a report said Friday. The New Straits Times said the 30-year-old teacher is claiming 3.0 million ringgit (941,000 dollars) in damages for false promises over their marriage, which collapsed after her in-laws disapproved.

Thailand bans 'quick half sex-change'

BANGKOK - Thailand's health chiefs barred hospitals and clinics on Wednesday from castrating would-be "ladyboys" amid growing concern about the operation being seen as a cheap and quick alternative to a full sex-change. However, senior health official Tara Chinakarn admitted that policing the temporary ban might be difficult as cosmetic removal of the testicles was such a quick operation and easy to conduct in secret.
