Sixty maltreated dogs were saved by policemen in Quezon City on Thursday.

Mel Alipio of the Network for Animals said the dogs were rescued by their team with the help of the Quezon City police's anti-carnapping unit in Balintawak.

Alipio said the dogs were found by policemen on a van. He said the dogs were to be delivered to Baguio City.

Police, meanwhile, found out that the dogs came from Cavite province and will be sold to azucena (dog meat) traders in Baguiog City.

Alipio said the saved dogs will be brought to Manila City and his organization will try to look for prospective owners of the dogs.

He said more than 300 dogs have been rescued the Network for Animals since November.

"We will continue rescuing dogs. Please don't sell them and take care of them," Alipio pleaded to dog owners.
