Negros Occ officials destroy banned firecrackers

Negros Occidental Gov. Isidro Zayco and provincial police chief Senior Superintendent Manuel Felix on Monday led the destruction of an estimated half a million peso worth of banned firecrackers confiscated in a series of operations last December.

Capitol employees and members of the province’s police witnessed the destruction of the illegal firecrackers at the Capitol lagoon.
Police spokesperson Senior Inspector Rico Santotome Jr, said a total of 30 operations on violations of Republic Act (RA) 7183 or the Firecrackers Law was conducted by the special operations group and intelligence operatives of the provincial police.

A total of eight persons were also apprehended for violating sections 3 and 6 of RA 7183 or the illegal sale and display of oversized and imported firecrackers such as the "super lolo", "big trianggulo", "pla pla" and "piccolo". Charges have been filed against them.

Meanwhile, the ceremonial unsealing of the muzzles of the firearms of members of the police was also witnessed Monday.

Felix and Bacolod City police chief Senior Superintendent Ronilo Quebrar said there was no report of indiscriminate firing on the part of police personnel.

Police said New Year celebration in the province and in the city was peaceful.
