The foreign affairs department’s post in Hong Kong recorded the highest number of Filipinos who have signed up for the overseas absentee voting for the 2010 national elections as of Tuesday.

A statement posted on the DFA Web site cited the Philippine Consulate General (PCG) in Hong Kong as having the highest turnout of OAV since registration started on February 1, 2009.

As of Tuesday, the DFA’s Overseas Absentee Voting Secretariat reported that the PCG in Hong Kong has processed a total of 6,493 new OAV registrations.

The DFA said that this was due to the joint registration activities in the PCG premises in Admiralty and the field registration held in St. Joseph’s Church in Garden Road, Central.

The PCG in Hong Kong has been conducting field registrations in various locations in Hong Kong such as St. Joseph’s Church; The Church of Annunciation, Tsuen Wan; Sts. Peter and Paul Church, Yuen Long, New Territories; and El Shaddai in Sungtsun Catholic Primary and Secondary School, Sai Kung.

Two simultaneous field registrations were also conducted on April 26 in St. Francis Church in Maon Shan and St. Vincent’s Church in Hang Hau.

The post in Hong Kong continues to maintain the lead among all Foreign Service Posts worldwide in registering new applicants for the OAV for next year’s polls. It has been in the top rank worldwide since February 26.
