IBF/IBO flyweight king Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire, who demolished a previously unbeaten Raul Martinez on Sunday, is planning to make his way into the bantamweight division.

“I would love to move up,” Donaire said in a report posted on MaxBoxing.com shortly after winning over Martinez.

“In my last fight, I felt I should move up. I felt it in my legs in the last fight. I did all the running but I felt my legs go,” said the Filipino Flash.

If he play his cards right, Donaire could set himself up for a shot against interim WBO bantamweight champion Fernando Montiel.

Donaire showed off a new brand of aggressiveness in his match against Martinez at the historic Araneta Coliseum, dropping the challenger three times before finishing the fight off in the fourth round.

“I knew my punch would land because he sits on his punches,” said Donaire. “I knew because of this, if I landed, it would hurt more. My right hand was something he didn’t expect. I am so thankful for everyone here,” said Donaire.

He added that the victory of his comrade Brian Viloria over erstwhile IBF junior flyweight champion Ulises Solis has spurred him to do well against Martinez.

“I felt nervous coming in. Brian [Viloria] did his job and I didn’t want to be the one [losing the fight],” said Donaire.

The Filipino dished out his masterful performance despite a five-month layoff from the ring.
