Filipino pool heavyweights Dennis Orcollo, Warren Kiamco and Ronnie Alcano said they will not compete in the upcoming Philippine Ten-Ball Open Championship.
The three billiard players denied reports that they have received respective invites to participate in the event sanctioned by the World Pool-Snooker Association (WPA).
Orcollo is the former World No. 1 pool player while Alcano is the former World 9-Ball champion. Kiamco is a veteran of international pool events, and has placed in several of them.
“Wala pa kaming natatanggap na imbitasyon mula sa kanila, at sa pagkakaalam namin ay may mga kundisyong inilatag ang Raya Sport (the event organizer) bago kami makasali at iyon ay hindi pa namin sinasang-ayunan,” Orcollo said in a report posted on BilliardPhilippines.com
The top Filipino cue artists earlier vowed not to participate in events organized by Yen Makabenta’s Raya Sports.
They had a dispute with Makabenta during his stint as chairman of the Billiards and Snooker Congress of the Philippines.
Among the foreign players expected to participate in the Philippine Open Ten Ball Championship are World Ten Ball champion Darren Appleton of England, European women’s champion Jasmine Ouschan, World 8-ball king Ralf Souquet of Germany and top World 9-ball player Daryl Peach.
The tournament, which has a total prize fund of $84,000, is slated at the SM Megamall in Mandaluyong City, Metro Manila on May 26-31.
The $20,000 top prize and a trophy will be going to the tournament champion.
