Donaire, Concepcion all set for ‘Pinoy Power 2’

MANILA -- The World Boxing Association (WBA) interim super flyweight championship and World Boxing Organization (WBO) featherweight championship titles will be contested by Filipino fighters in “Pinoy Power 2” on August 15.

According to PhilBoxing.com, Nonito Donaire, Bernabe Concepcion and Mark Jason Melligen are the Filipinos featured in the event that will take place at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Donaire, the former International Boxing Federation/International Boxing Organization flyweight champion, vacated his title to have a shot at the WBA super flyweight crown.

“The Filipino Flash” will go against former world champion Rafael “El Torito” Concepcion of Panama.

Donaire has a record of 21-1, with 14 knockouts while Concepcion is at 13-3-1, with eight knockouts.

Bernabe Concepcion, meantime, will challenge Mexican-American Steven Luevano, the WBO featherweight champion.

Concepcion, a Freddie Roach-trained fighter is at 29-1-1, with 17 knockouts. Luevano has a 36-1-1 record, with 15 knockouts.

Junior welterweight fighter Melligen, meantime, is featured in the undercard. Undefeated Cuban heavyweight Odlanier Solis is also set to fight in “Pinoy Power 2.”
