Defending champ Orcollo gets the boot in Qatar 9-Ball

QATAR -- Defending champion and former World No. 1 Dennis Orcollo was showed the door in the ongoing 2009 Qatar International 9-ball Pool Championship after absorbing his second straight loss in the tournament.
Orcollo became the first Filipino casualty in the tournament after losing to Mateusz Sniegocki of Poland, 9-5, at the Qatar Billiards and Snooker Federation in Doha.
He earlier suffered an upset loss in the hands of unheralded Pinoy pooler Francisco Felicilda, 9-7.
Several other Pinoy poolers also suffered defeats in the second round.
Marlon Manalo lost to Radoslaw Babica of Poland, 9-8; Antonio Gabica succumbed to Mika Immonen of Finland, 9-4; Raymund Faraon bowed to Kuo Po Cheng of Chinese-Taipei, 9-7; and Oliver Medinilla yielded to Vilmos Foldes of Hungrary, 9-4.
Meanwhile, Israel Rota and Alan Cuartero kept the Philippine flag flying as they scored easy victories over their respective opponents.
Rota defeated Christoph Reintjens of Germany, 9-5, while Cuartero blasted Khalid Sibaitah of UAE, 9-0.
Around 120 cueists representing 55 countries from Asia, Europe, America and Africa are competing in the ten-day event, which offers $40,000 to the top champion. Marlon Bernardino
