RP's World Jr. 9-Ball representatives named

The Billiards and Snookers Congress of the Philippines, together with Raya Sports, has named three players who will represent the country in the 2008 World Pool-Billiard Association Junior 9-Ball tournament next month in Reno, Nevada.

Yen Makabenta, BSCP chairman and Raya Sports head, said Jerico Bañares, Jonas Magpantay and Zemonette Oryan will carry the country's colors during the event that runs from November 30-December 3

Bañares is the reigning Philippine junior champ while Oryan is the 2008 National Women's champion. The 14-year-old Magpantay, a Grade 6 pupil of Pedro Tuazon Elementary School in Cubao, Quezon City, is the winner of two local tournaments.

Meanwhile, the US Billiard Education Foundation (BEF) has also named nine junior players who will represent the United States in the World Junior 9-Ball tournament.

They are Austin Murphy of Folsom, California (2008 BEF Junior Nationals Champion, 19-and-under boys’ division), Landon Shuffett of Greensburg, Kentucky (2008 BEF Junior Nationals Champion, 14-and-under boys’ division), Allison Hardwick of Evansville, Indiana (2008 BEF Junior Nationals Champion, 19-and-under girls’ division), Briana Miller of Allentown, Pennsylvania (2008 BEF Junior Nationals Champion, 14-and-under girls’ division), Nick Tafoya of Albuquerque, New Mexico (2008 Junior Nationals, runner up, 19-and-under boys’ division),
Chelsea Hardwick of Evansville, Indiana (2008 Junior Nationals, runner up, 19-and-under girls’ division), Billy Thorpe of Dayton, Ohio (2008 Junior Nationals, runner up, 14-and-under boys’ division), Richard Barney of Hagerstown, Maryland (2008 Junior Nationals, third place, 19-and-under boys’ division) and Chuckie Holyoke of Mt Vernon, Washington (2008 Junior Nationals, fourth place, 19-and-under boys’ division).
