Not so long ago, the News and Current Affairs of ABS-CBN, via its TV Patrol program, launched an SMS (short message system) polling service where viewers were asked to vote on particular question or issue using their cell phone.
The results the service generated were compelling. Everyday, the system received many votes, which made us realize that majority of Filipinos, rich or poor, want to be heard through cell phone voting.
With the 2010 elections less than a year away, we want you to express your opinion again by using your mobile phones.
This time, we are asking you to vote on the question: Sino sa tingin mo ang dapat tumakbo bilang pangulo sa 2010? (Who do you think should run for president in 2010?)
The poll aims to raise awareness about the upcoming 2010 presidential elections. It seeks to trigger discussions on the reasons behind people's choices, and toward the latter phases, encourage people to scrutinize the stand and track record of presidential candidates.
Syntax
Before they are allowed to vote, participants are required to register their mobile phones by typing this syntax: HALALAN REG <name/gender/age/address and send to 2366.
This poll survey is open to Globe, Touch Mobile, Smart, Talk N' Text and Sun Cellular subscribers. Participants are allowed to vote more than once.
The results of the poll are posted on abs-cbnNEWS.com, and can be received using a designated SMS syntax by registered poll participants on their mobile phones.
The updated poll results on abs-cbnNEWS.com can be seen in the form of a flash graphic where caricatures of the poll choices, illustrated as athletes, are shown running similar to horses on a race track. The race track is actually a horizontal graph.
Data shown on the website correspond to the total votes and the percentage of total votes obtained by a particular leader from text votes.
Not scientific
ABS-CBN would also want to emphasize that this poll survey is not scientific.
The names included in this poll were preselected based on names provided by respondents in surveys of independent polling organizations. Users choose from names arranged in alphabetical order.
As we launch our text poll, we will be closing our online poll. We thank the responses we've had to our online poll, including feedback about the results.
We thank those who have participated, including those who raised concerns about the online poll. We would like to reiterate that ABS-CBN does not back any candidate.
Partly in response to some questions raised by our community on poll reporting accuracy, we have moved the poll to a third-party provider starting May 21.
This mobile version expands our poll platform since it makes it available to the much wider, non-online audience.
