Lucas, who's popularly known as "Courageous Caitie" after her inspiring but heartbreaking story went viral on social media, was diagnosed with juvenile myelomonocytic leukemia.

Lucas' disease began New Year 2016 when her parents spotted rashes on her body, which were initially thought to be insect bites. However, Lucas began to lose weight. There began a long, arduous process of determining Caitie's disease.

The first diagnosis was tuberculosis, prompting Lucas to undergo a series of medication for TB. The kid's condition, however, continued to worsen.

The family flew to Singapore where doctors there diagnosed Lucas with juvenile myelomonocytic leukemia—a rare form of leukemia that affects one in a million children around the world.

Despite her condition, the young girl showed exemplary courage, living a normal life as much as possible.

Help poured in when well-wishers on social media set up different means to raise funds for Lucas, such as auctions of paintings among others.
